I heard I should not use mulch made of wood in my landscape because it attracts termites.

Termites in your yard are constantly foraging for wood.Since organic mulches are made of wood you may occasionally find termites under the mulch in a plant bed. That does not necessarily translate into mulches being able to sustain a breeding population of termites, due to the small size of the mulch particles, nor does it mean that mulch "attracts" termites. The key is to avoid thick piles of mulch near or against the foundation of your house or other building structures.Either keep mulch pulled a few inches away from the building or use a very thin layer near the building to allow the soil there to remain dryer.
