What does indoor air quality have to do with green purchasing?

One of the primary sources of indoor air pollution is the release of volatile organic compounds (VOC) into the atmosphere. Among several acute and chronic health issues, elevated levels of VOC’s contribute to eye and respiratory irritations. VOCs are emitted into the air from solid and liquid surfaces such as chemicals, installation of new flooring, paint, and chemically treated wood products. Purchasing items that have low or non toxic constituents will reduce indoor air pollution.
