Youth are recognized for their work in several ways in 4-H. First, there are ribbon awards. Every youth that participates in a competitive event will receive a ribbon. Youth ages 5-7 are not scored for points and receive green participation ribbons for their work. All other youth are scored on a 100 point system. - 90 – 100 points earns a blue ribbon,
- 80 – 89 points earns a red ribbon, and entrants that receive
- 79 points or less earn a white ribbon.
- Also the 4-H office keeps track of the number of blue ribbons earned and for every 20 blue ribbons earned the youth receive a pin.
Next, are achievement pins and medals.
Each year that a youth is in 4-H and completes a project they receive an achievement year pin. Youth that turn their completed projects in for county judging are eligible for medals. The youth with the highest points in each age division from junior to senior receives the medal. Once a youth receives a medal in a project area they can not receive it again until they advance to the next age division.
Finally, are the Clover Awards. These are certificates the youth apply for after setting and reaching goals for the 4-H year. The youth must keep an accurate record of all their 4-H activities through the year. They then turn that record into their leader and depending on how active the youth has been they can receive a bronze, silver, gold or emerald clover.
