Do green buildings cost more than traditional buildings?

Although many green buildings may have a higher upfront cost during the construction phase, they are much more likely to have significantly lower operating costs than traditional buildings in the long run. For example, energy efficient and water conserving strategies yield operational savings for the lifetime of the building. In addition, the installation of alternative energy equipment and high efficiency lighting can greatly reduce costs as well.
