How can I prevent high blood pressure or at least reduce my risk?

blood pressure cuff.jpgYou can take steps to prevent high blood pressure by adopting a healthy lifestyle. These steps include:

  • Losing weight, if necessary, and maintaining a healthy weight. 
  • Being physically active for 30 minutes each day.
  • Following a healthy eating plan like DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). See link below. 
  • If you drink alcoholic beverages, drinking in moderation. That means no more than 1 drink a day for women and two for men.
