The insect is called a Jadera bug or Golden Rain Tree Bug, Jadera haematoloma. The insect feeds on seeds that have dropped to the ground from trees overhead, especially from golden rain trees, Koelreuteria spp. They generally don’t feed on plants; they are just a nuisance. Usually seen in April, May and June, there is no need to control these insects as they are not considered a harmful pest. Raking up the golden rain tree seeds may help to eliminate the jadera bugs.
