My children don’t drink milk. Do you have some suggestions on how I can sneak calcium into their diets?

  • Create yogurt parfaits with layers of yogurt, fruit and whole grain cereal.
  • Add cheese to scrambled eggs and omelets.
  • Add white or red beans to soups and chili.
  • Make double-the-milk shakes by adding powdered milk to traditional milkshakes and smoothies made in the blender.
  • Buy calcium-fortified foods such as orange juice, cereals and breads.
  • Try adding strawberry or chocolate syrup to milk. The few extra calories are worth the calcium benefit.
  • Add cheese to sandwiches and offer cheese with crackers as an after-school snack.
  • Make mini-pizzas by topping English muffins with pizza sauce, and other toppings such as mushrooms, green peppers, pepperoni, chicken, tomatoes and cheese.
  • Make vegetable dips with cream cheese as a base or use yogurt for even more calcium.
  • Use powdered milk to make creamy soups.
  • Stir fry broccoli and top with shredded cheese.
  • Top a scoop of ice cream or frozen yogurt with fresh berries.
