Palms can be pruned to remove dead fronds and flower or fruit clusters as needed throughout the year for
aesthetics. Fronds that are not comple
tely dead (brown) should not be removed. Removing fronds that are not completely dead can make any existing nutrient deficiencies worse. Therefore it is best to never remove green fronds or mostly green fronds unless absolutely necessary. When removing these fronds you should be sure you have a sharp clean tool, be sure to make the cut as close to the trunk as possible without damaging the trunk. Never remove any green fronds that are growing out parallel to the ground or any that are pointing up towards the top of the tree.
