There is a scary amount of information out there on going green. So much in fact it might stop you dead in your tracks. So the first thing to do is take a deep breath and choose one thing, it could be buying recycling bins for paper or putting a sign by the copier reminding your coworkers to print on both sides of the paper. Then do that one thing and share it with everybody: send out and office wide email, stop by every desk, or even start a contest about the project you picked.
Below is a list of other ways to kick start your Green Office program
- Narrow your margins to reduce paper.
- Reuse the back of a one-sided document for drafts before you recycle the paper.
- Use reusable mugs and dishes for your drinks and food during the day to reduce waste.
- Ask for and order recycled content office paper, supplies and products. Buying recycled content helps turn recyclables into new products.
- Turn off your lights when not in your office.
- Turn off your computer screen when you are away from your desk for long periods of time.
- Turn off your computer when not in use.
- Open window blinds to let in natural sunlight and turn off overhead lights whenever possible.
