How is 4-H different from the Scouts?

Although both organizations strive to teach youth life skills and good citizenship, they go about it in different ways.
  • 4-H uses youth/adult partnerships to lead their program, where the Scouts are led by an adult.
  • 4-H allows the youth to select one topic and become an expert on that topic. The Scouts work on a variety of topics throughout the year in an effort to earn badges, not become experts.
  • 4-H is based on the experiential learning model and tested university research.
  • Families can participate in 4-H together. Boys and girls of all ages can attend the same club meetings. The older youth learn leadership skills while working with the younger members.
