What is the Florida Sea Grant?

special collections.jpgbarracuda-bismarck-sea_12662_990x742.jpgThe Florida Sea Grant uses academic research, education and extension to create a sustainable coastal economy and environment. We are a partnership between the Florida Board of Education, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS). Florida Sea Grant’s Strategic Plan reflects the input of hundreds of Floridians representing academia, government, industry and citizens. It addresses issues that are important to Florida, the nation and the world. The plan defines Florida Sea Grant’s role and strategies for addressing critical coastal and marine issues in the framework of four focus areas:

       1. healthy coastal and marine ecosystems;

       2. sustainable and hazard-resilient coastal communities;

       3. seafood production and safety;

       4. climate change: impacts and adaptations.

Florida Sea Grant has six University of Florida specialists and 21 marine extension agents in various counties across the State.
