My back yard only gets about 2 hours of direct sun. Is there any type of sod that I can put down that will thrive with that little sun?

The most shade tolerant grasses for our area are some of the St. Augustine grass cultivars: ‘Delmar’, ‘Seville’, ‘Floraverde’ and ‘Captiva’. According to the University of Florida, even these shade tolerant varieties need 5 to 6 hours of sunlight to perform well.

In areas that do not receive enough hours of sunlight to maintain healthy turf grass you might consider choosing other shade tolerant ground covers or, for areas that will receive a lot of foot traffic, mulches.
